Running my business out of my home certainly has its advantages. Lower overhead, being near my family and the convenience of having my work at my fingertips at any time are just a few. But there are a few drawbacks too. Mostly, not having an area to display large prints and canvases. For some bizarre reason, Anna doesn’t want me hanging up pictures of other people’s weddings and children all over our house. Also, Elmo has found permanent residence in my meeting space. And he stares at me.
But all that’s about to change.
For the past few months, I have been hard at work building a gallery/office/meeting area. I began leveling the floor and framing the walls in January. My dad and I added a few new breakers and a bunch of sockets and lights a few weeks ago, and Word of Mouth Construction is finishing up the drywall right now (I was going to attempt that myself, but my dad talked me out of it, thank God).
In the next few weeks, I’ll prime, paint, install the flooring, projector, speakers and additional track lighting and furnish it. Then for the fun stuff…hanging up some BIG prints. It’s going to be wonderful to bring couples into a space where they can see all that I have to offer and review proofs and albums in a bright space. Here’s a few photos of the room as of March 9. It already looks different.
